This is my first car, a 1957 Plymouth Savoy. I purchased it in 1985 when I was fifteen years old. It had rotted front fenders, no brakes, and no reverse. On the plus side, it smoked like a locomotive. It was originally white, with a seafoam green roof and lower quarter panel inset, and green interior. I had it drivable by 1987, but the engine was shot, and the transmission did not function properly. I bought a 1976 Chrysler station wagon in 1990 for $500, and proceeded to swap out the 301 poly v8 and two speed powerflight with the 440 and TF727 from the station wagon, which had 54k original miles. I drove the car around a little bit in this condition until I bought my house in Denver in 1993, which had a garage and a basement to facilitate the teardown. By this time, I had completed trade school for auto collision repair and had the ability to do the body work myself. I stripped the car all the way down, and chemically stripped the paint. The body was solid when I bought the car in 1985, aside from the front fenders. Body work was limited to filling door dings, a dent in the drivers side rear corner of the roof, and other assorted bruises, all minor.
